DEPARTURE: Hyères
Meet at 9am in the port of Hyères to board the boat Tranquility. Alexandre will be waiting on deck to show you around the boat and your cabin. After familiarising yourself with the boat and getting to know your crew, it's time to set sail to discover the French Riviera and its islands.

Navigation
Alexandre is keen to pass on his passion for sailing in a fun and educational way. He will adapt to your skill level and wishes to help you progress as much as possible.

A wide range of themes will be covered, including:

  • Setting and Sail Selection
  • Lights (Bearing, Near, Through...)
  • Amur Changes (Tack, Gybe)
  • Port Manoeuvres (Sailing or Engine)
  • Meteorology (interpretation of the sky, cloud shapes, disturbances...)
  • Mapping (map reading, drawing a route...)

Your sailing course will allow you to discover some mythical stopovers in the south of France:

  • The Golden Islands are an archipelago of 4 islands located opposite the Massif des Maures:
    • Porquerolles is the largest island in the archipelago. The north of the island is peaceful, with turquoise waters and fine sandy beaches, while the south boasts steep cliffs and mysterious coves.
    • Port-Cros is by far the most mountainous island. Its trails attract hiking enthusiasts each year and its seabed draws diving enthusiasts. The anchorages are regulated to preserve the island's ecosystem, but you can easily dock at Port-Cros.
    • Le Levant is an island shared between the Arbutus Voluntary Nature Reserve and the naturally beautiful area of Heliopolis. Along its coast, you will find some lovely anchorages to take a lunch break and enjoy the view.
    • Bagaud is classified as an "Integral Reserve" and is the subject of scientific studies of animals and plant species present on the island. Many buoys have been set up on several mooring areas, allowing you to spend a night in a beautiful setting while preserving the environment.

  • The peninsula of Giens is a small corner of paradise attached to the continent by a double tombolo (sandbar of about 4km). Between these two bands, the salt marshes are home to an exceptional biodiversity that will delight birdwatchers. There are several species of falcon, herons, avocets, warblers and the very elegant pink flamingos. You will find beautiful coves to anchor and perhaps even caves to explore...

  • Fort Brégançon was built and fortified in the Middle Ages on a strategic rocky outcrop to monitor the rafts of Hyères and Toulon for potential invaders. Since 1968, it has been classified as a historic monument and every year sees the President of the French Republic parade during the commemorations of the landing of Provence.

  • Cape Taillat will be easily accessible by westerly winds, allowing you to hoist the sails for incredible wayside navigation. Once there, you will discover a fascinating natural environment Its hiking trails lead to the burial site of the Dolmen of Briande.\

ARRIVAL: Hyères

Please note:
  • Depending on weather conditions, you may have to board at the port of Hyères.

Finally, choose a travel bag over a suitcase that can be stored easier on board.
  • How are meals organised on board?

Provisioning is not included in the price of your sailing course. Shopping is managed by all participants before boarding. Alexandre usually sets up a discussion group with the participants to plan who brings what. The aim is to avoid doing any big shopping trips on the day of embarkation to save time. Of course, replenishments can be made during stopovers.
Everyone is free to bring along local specialities to share with the rest of the crew.
As far as the organisation of meals is concerned, everyone will be asked to take part in the daily tasks (preparation, cooking, washing up, etc.).
  • What happens in the event of bad weather?

    Two scenarios are possible:

    • 1st case: The skipper considers the weather too bad to navigate in good safety conditions. In this case, the skipper will suggest that you cancel or postpone the cruise within the time slots available.

    • 2nd case: The weather is not good, but the skipper considers the navigation is not risky to the safety of the crew. In this case, the course will go ahead. Weather hazards are an integral part of sailing. Depending on the region you're visiting, it's important to take the right items with you.

In any case, it is important to note that the skipper is the sole judge of the weather and safety conditions. But rest assured, less favourable weather conditions are also very interesting, allowing you to discover another sailing experience!
