Croatia

DAY 1: Pula
Meet in the Polesana marina (Pula) at 4pm for your boarding. The course begins with a friendly briefing. This is an opportunity for the instructors to introduce themselves and share their passion, but also for the participants to get to know each other and create a dynamic team. After organising the menus, you'll head off to get supplies. The end of the day will be devoted to exploring the boat and getting to grips with it in a relaxed atmosphere.

DAY 2- 7: Sailing
The morning begins with a practical session devoted to manoeuvres, an opportunity to familiarise yourself further with navigation techniques. Once these exercises are finished, you set sail for your first port of call, ready to explore new horizons.

Below is an overview of the topics you will cover during your course:

  • Weather Forecasting and chart reading will be an integral part of your course. You will learn how to read weather reports and what factors to take into account to establish the best strategy and sail in ideal conditions.

  • Adjusting the sails according to speed will naturally be your daily routine. For the best possible setting and to give you greater performance, stability (importance of managing the boat's base) and maintain the condition of the sails, taking into account wind strength and sea state.

  • Mooring manoeuvers from the boat to the port and buoy. In particular, you will be working on the approaches to the quay (bow, stern or side) and the various anchoring techniques.

  • Safety at sea is also a must if you want to sail with complete peace of mind. The idea is to have the right reactions for the most common situations and injuries (first aid on board, use of the VHF).

  • Solving mechanical problems related to navigation. In particular, you will discuss any problems with the propulsion system and the anchor winch. You'll also learn how to avoid the most common types of damage.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the stopovers you can make during your course:
  • Medulin Bayis a protected bay, ideal for sailors of all levels and for practising manoeuvres. (anchoring, man overboard, departure from and arrival in port, etc.).

  • Unijeis an island in the Lošinj archipelago. It's the perfect setting for sailing in complete peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist trade. What better way to make progress than sailing in idyllic surroundings?

  • Mali Lošinjis an island known for its calm waters and favourable winds for sailing. Its many secluded bays make it ideal for coastal sailing.

  • Iloviknicknamed ‘the island of flowers’, is situated south of Lošinj. It boasts lush countryside and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for sailing. Prevailing winds include the Maestral (north-westerly), ideal for summer sailing.

  • Sušacis also part of the Lošinj archipelago. The waters around Susak are shallow in places. The perfect opportunity to get out a nautical chart, avoid the sandbanks and plot the route to your next port of call.

You return to the port of Pula in the afternoon of day 7. This last sail will be a great opportunity to reinforce your skills and enjoy your sailing progress.

DAY 8: Pula
Disembarkation is scheduled for 9am.
This will also be the big day for those who have chosen to take the B licence exam (optional). The timetable will be announced later in the week by the port authorities.
