Yacht charter in Thailand

Best reason to charter a yacht in Thailand?

In summary, the best reason to rent a boat in Thailand is the beaches. Making it perfect for a coastal yacht charter exploration.

The Beaches

Every year, thousands of tourists come to Thailand for its paradisiacal islands with picture-perfect beaches. Yacht charter here will guarantee you some of the most sublime sands you will ever come across. If you’re heading south from Phuket towards Langkawi, you will come across Koh Lipe island; home to Sunrise Beach, a stunning spot with powdery sands and sparkling turquoise waters. If you’re navigating around Koh Lanta, sail your yacht south to the tiny national park island of Koh Kradan, where you find the main beach of fine, pale sands with gorgeous views of the nearby limestone rock formations in addition to coral reef home to an abundance of tropical wildlife, best explored by kayak.

Island Guide

Phuket

The largest of all the Thai islands, Phuket has something for everyone; whether it be food, beaches, watersports, parties or nature… there’s an endless amount to keep you busy during your yacht charter in Phuket. Whether it be hiking to stunning viewpoints like Promthep Cape, or partying on Patong beach or spending your evenings tasting local street foods in the night markets in Phuket town, you will be spoilt for choice!

Koh Samui

Another larger island, Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand, and makes a great spot to rent a yacht! Explore the 42 islands of Ang Thong National Marine Park, home to breathtaking natural splendor; with jungle, beaches, mangroves, waterfalls and lakes all boasting an astonishing array of exotic wildlife. On land, you can visit the Big Buddha shrine, the Secret Buddha Garden, or the picturesque purple rocks of Namuang waterfall! Spend your evenings attending an iconic Ladyboy Show or exploring the night markets at Bophut Fisherman’s village.

Koh Chang

The second largest island in Thailand, Koh Chang is a green haven located near the Cambodia border. With a coastline of picturesque sandy beaches and an emerald, jungle interior; it is the perfect spot for hiking to rivers, waterfalls and immersing yourself in nature. Though it’s becoming steadily more popular with tourists, it’s still a relatively untouched spot for a yacht charter!

Koh Phi Phi Don

A true picture of paradise, the Phi Phi islands were famed from being the filming location of Danny Boyle’s ‘The Beach’, more specifically at Maya Bay, so if you’re visiting, don’t miss out on the chance to drop anchor where Leonardo Dicaprio once trod! (Although be aware that nearly every tourist passing through Thailand will have the same idea, so we advise you don’t visit during the middle of the day, as this will be peak times for day-trippers!) These islands are a great spot if you’re a fan of kayaking, rock climbing, diving or hiking as they are hugely popular in this region, with astonishing views both above and below water.

Krabi

During a yacht charter from Krabi, you will have over 200 nearby islands to explore. Check out the world-famous Railay Beach, which is consistently votes one of Thailand’s, if not the world’s most attractive beaches! Discover the extraordinary flora and fauna of Thung Teao Forest National Park, such as the (once thought extinct) Pita Gurney bird or take a swim in the crystal lagoon. Moor your yacht, and head on land to the Klong Thom thermal volcanic springs which reach temperatures of 40 degrees C or check out the cave temples at Wat Tham Sua.

Pattaya

Located about 100km south east of Bangkok, the island of Pattaya offers a different experience yet again! Before embarking on your yacht charter, visit the Pattaya Floating Markets, or Wat Phra Khao Yai (Big Buddha Hill), soaking up some of the authentic areas of the island. Explore the Sanctuary of Truth, home to many Buddhist and Hindu motifs and ‘visionary art’; it began construction in the 80s, and is an ongoing project, so it’s a must visit as the structure is an everchanging masterpiece! You can moor your boat and spend an afternoon relaxing in the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, where 2.4km² of elaborate landscaping, cacti, bonsais, tropical palms and orchids make for a garden like you will have never experienced before.

Sailing Conditions

During your yacht charter in Thailand, you will be faced with very different sailing conditions depending on the destinations. If you sail in the Andaman Sea (Phuket, Phi Phi islands etc.), high season is between November and April. Sailing conditions during this time are the best. The weather is sunny, with temperatures averaging in their 30s and winds moderate. May to October however, is monsoon season and not suitable for a yacht charter in the Andaman, but if you head across to the Gulf of Thailand to islands such as Koh Samui or Koh Tao, it’s their high season, and the weather is glorious, and ideal for navigation!

Getting There

Getting to Thailand is increasingly easy as it becomes an ever-more popular destination for not just yacht charters, but with tourists from all over the globe! If you fly into Bangkok you can then fly to larger islands such as Phuket or Koh Samui from there, and then commence your charter or take a ferry to your island of choice!
