Yacht charter in Marseille

Sailing in Marseille

The port of Marseille has been an integral part of the city for hundreds of years and is the primary reason for an influx of cultures and people. Sailing in this destination is a good choice for exploring the French Riviera as it commands the same exceptional views and sailing conditions without breaking the bank. Like most Mediterranean destinations, the best time to charter a yacht here is between April and October, when good weather is nearly always guaranteed, and the winds are not too strong. Early spring can sometimes welcome the Mistral wind which hails from the north west, so early autumn may be preferable in order to get the most idyllic conditions away from the crowds of the high season. This time of year also sees warmer sea temperatures – perfect for going for a quick dip! Temperatures in the summer can also hover close to 30°C – so bring some sun cream!

Marseille’s Marvels

Calanques National Park

Jaw-dropping, rugged landscapes carved by the elements have rendered this national park one of the highlights of any sailing holiday in Marseille. Taking in the view from your chartered yacht of the cinematic jagged rocks is something that will stay with you forever. The tallest point of the coastline can be found at Mont Puget which stands at 565m. Curious vegetation and wildlife can be found scattered throughout the national park, which has become on of the most popular attractions in Marseille over the past decade. Hiking trails can lead you to some incredible viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean – a perfect day adventure for any holidaymaker.

Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde

Towering over the city of Marseille and acting as a lookout for sailors using the port of the city, this imposing cathedral is an architectural marvel. Featuring a golden statue that stands proud at the top of the highest point, it is one of the first things you notice when you visit Marseille, and indeed it is always visible no matter where in the ocean you have sailed your yacht rental. With ties to the military of hundreds of years ago, and the impressive artwork which lines the walls both inside and out, there is an abundance of history linked with this landmark. Marseille’s rich and cultured history was shaped around this strong fortress.

La Friche

Marseille has become synonymous with great culture and expression of diversity, and nowhere is this more evident than in La Friche. Here, there is no shortage of artistic marvels and vibrant shops to explore. You can become immersed in this trendy corner of the city, a perfect stop on your yacht charter holiday. There are great views from the roof of this old tobacco factory, which features book shops, exhibitions, and great social scenes. Anyone who is anyone has visited this landmark of Marseille.

Where Should I Eat in Marseille?

Of course it would be impossible to narrow down the best food establishments in Marseille, given the sheer quantity of excellent places and the huge array of culinary flavours on offer. However, there are some highlights worth looking into, including Douceur Piquante which serves some exquisite food inspired by both African and Mediterranean traditions. If you are looking for some good pizza, those who have chartered a yacht in this city before have recommended Chez Etienne thanks to the modern and innovative twists on the Italian classic. Just want a drink? Then CopperBay is the best place to go. Modelled after the Parisian alternative, this is where you can sample a truly remarkable range of cocktails and drinks. Why not bring a bottle of wine back to your boat to admire the gorgeous sunset over Marseille’s golden coastline?

How to Get to Marseille

Getting to your chartered yacht destination in Marseille is one thing you do not have to worry about.
