Yacht charter in ACI Marina Split

How to get there

ACI Marina Split is located at the base of the Split peninsula, next to the city center and within walking distance of Diocletian’s Palace.

Split is served by Split Airport (SPU), Croatia’s second busiest airport, located approximately 24 kilometers (15 miles) from ACI Marina Split. There is also a nearby ferry terminal that connects to many islands.

The airport operates direct flights from major European cities, with frequent connections from places like London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. There are also many direct flights from large US cities such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago.

The city of Split is about a 30min drive from the airport, to reach the port you can take a shuttle, a bus or a taxi. Transfer can also be organized by the local operator.

The bus is less expensive and more frequent. However, the shuttle takes you directly to the port whereas the bus leaves you at a small station about twenty minutes away: it is not very practical if you have lots of luggage! The choice is yours!

  • Sailing and weather conditions

The best months to go sailing in Split are between May and October, the weather is warm and the winds are often consistent and steady.

July and August is the peak season for yacht charters in Croatia, it is very hot, vibrant and busy.

May to June and September is the shoulder season, the weather is milder and there are fewer crowds

Combined with warm waters and blue skies, the climate of Croatia could not be more ideal for a yacht charter.

It is important to check weather forecasts regularly. You or your skipper should be aware of the Bora winds (dry, cold, north-easterly), Jugo winds (humid, southerly) and Maestral winds (northwesterly), which are common during the summer months. These details are important to remember.

    Provisioning and preparation

Provisioning for your sailing holiday is easy at ACI Marina Split. Several supermarkets are located nearby, including well-known Croatian chains like Tommy, Konzum, and Lidl. You’ll also find smaller convenience stores and bakeries within walking distance of the marina.

It is also possible to order your groceries online, to be delivered to the boat. We recommend contacting the local operator at least two weeks before your charter to organise provisioning being delivered to your boat.

Many yacht charter companies based at ACI Marina Split offer the option for early check-in, depending on availability. This can be a great way to settle in sooner and maximize your time on the water. Early check-in usually comes with an additional fee, booking early and requesting this in advance is recommended, especially during the high season.

ACI Marina Split has a dedicated parking area for guests, located close to the piers. However, parking spaces can be limited during peak summer months, so it’s wise to book a spot in advance. Alternatively, nearby public car parks may offer overflow options if the marina lot is full.

    Local food

  • Pasticada is a true Dalmatian classic, this is a slow-cooked beef stew marinated in vinegar and garlic, then braised with red wine, prunes, and spices. Served with soft homemade gnocchi, it’s rich, sweet, and savory.

  • Crni Rižot is a black risotto. Don’t let the inky color scare you - this seafood risotto is a delicacy! Made with cuttlefish or squid and their ink, garlic, olive oil, and white wine, it has a briny depth and a creamy texture that seafood lovers will adore.

  • Soparnik is a simple but delicious pie that’s actually protected as part of Croatia’s cultural heritage. It’s filled with Swiss chard, garlic, and parsley between thin layers of dough, then baked in a wood-fired oven. Think of it as a rustic, green cousin to pizza.

  • Brodetto, also known as a fisherman’s stew, simmered with tomato, onion, garlic, and white wine. Always served with polenta to soak up the savory, slightly tangy broth. No two recipes are the same-every family has its version.

  • Fritule is Croatia’s answer to doughnuts. These mini fried dough balls are flavored with rum, citrus zest, and sometimes raisins, dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect street food or dessert, especially around holidays and festivals.

  • Must see in Split

There are plenty of must see monuments and attractions in Split, such as:

  • Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the heart of Split. It was built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD, today it is filled with shops, cafes and historical ruins. The palace is right in the center of the town and is about a 25 minute walk from the marina.

  • Saint Domnius Cathedral and bell tower, this cathedral is one of the oldest in the world. Be sure to climb to the top of the bell tower inside Diocletian's Palace for amazing panoramic views of the sea and the city below.

  • Visit the Temple of Jupiter, a small Roman temple that was turned into a baptistery. Inside, you'll find a large statue of a headless sphinx—one of three original sphinxes Diocletian brought from Egypt.

  • Check out the statue of Gregory of Nin, an 8.5-meter-tall sculpture by Ivan Meštrović. It honors a medieval bishop who fought for the right to use Croatian in religious services. Rubbing the big toe is said to bring good luck! The statue is just outside the Golden Gate, on the north side of the palace.

  • Don't miss the Split City and Ethnographic Museum, which focuses on Split's medieval history and traditional Dalmatian life and art.
