Procida’s little neighbouring island is an excellent glimpse into the natural formations of the region, with a window into the past volcanic activity which moulded the landscape. Here, there is an abundance of birds who inhabit the island, with no impact of modern human civilisation to be seen. Although you cannot sail your sailboat to this island, it is accessible by a small foot bridge through the organisation of a guided tour. This is an excellent example of the natural beauty of Procida and the surrounding islands.
Anyone who charters a sailboat in Procida will likely maroon in Marina di Corricella. This stunning marina lies in front of the pastel backdrop for which the island is renowned. However, this is not the best view of marina. Instead, reach new heights with an ascension overlooking the sweeping vistas of the island. Here, you can gaze in awe at the kaleidoscope of colours which merge between the shades of blue ocean and blue sky. In the distance, the luscious greenery hints at the natural landscape which dominated Procida. This is a truly wonderful view that is an essential activity for any sailor who visits.
Another wonderful viewing point over the Gulf of Naples can be found in the stunning outlook from Terra Murata. This is one of the most popular attractions for those who charter a sailboat in Procida, due to the monumental views of the ocean and the historical connotations of the Royal Palace. Although there is a little bit of a walk required to reach the best viewing point, it is definitely worth a visit to see the glorious sunshine-laded coastline. In the Abbey of San Michele, you can find some of the most thought-provoking works of art in Procida, and indeed Italy. With so much to explore and see, it is a truly remarkable place to visit during your sailing holiday.
Procida benefits from the glorious Italian sunshine, much like its closest city Naples. This means that chartering a sailboat could be done from anywhere between April and October as the weather conditions are superb. Winds tend to be a constant steady breeze from the northwest in mornings, before becoming a southerly wind from the afternoon and into the evening. High season is typically in July and August so it may be more difficult to find a berthing, so early autumn could be equally as appealing. This time of year also sees warmer water temperatures too – perfect for a quick swim or a snorkel. Temperatures in the summer can reach as high as the low 30s in Procida, so be sure to pack your sun cream!
Procida’s closest large metropolitan area happens to be the third largest city in Italy – Naples – so you will have no issue in reaching your sailboat charter destination. Thanks to the extensive rail and road routes connecting Naples to other Italian and European cities, you have a range of travel options. Naples airport can be found a half hour from Naples city centre and connects with large international routes in the US and EU, with these flights increasing in frequency during the high season. Once you arrive in Naples, it is a 23km sail via ferry to Procida, with beautiful views of the surrounding turquoise waters and beneath the iconic Mediterranean sunshine.
