The main ports of North or Upper Corsica are Calvi, Bastia and Macinaggio. To the west from Calvi or Ile Rousse, the coast is characterized by steep rocky red cliffs. You will easily reach the most beautiful sites of the Corsican coast such as the Scandola reserve, Girolata, the Agriates desert or the Balagnes. Northern Corsica offers a huge playground for sailors and is renowned for its unspoilt nature, its stunning anchorages, its pleasant climate, its well-equipped harbours and its unique creeks.
The best time for a sailboat charter in Calvi is between May and October. From Calvi, head upwards to Macinaggio and then on to Bastia – and be sure to stop by Ile Rousse.
Calvi - Algajola (6.2 miles): Halfway between L'Île Rousse and Calvi, Algajola is a quiet and family resort, nestling around its citadel.
Algajola - Ile Rousse (5.3 miles): Ile-Rousse is a popular summer resort. It has three beautiful sandy beaches, a record temperature, among the warmest, and a breath-taking hinterland.
Ile Rousse - Anse de Peraiola (5.3 miles): The stunning Ostriconi beach is located at the bottom of the Bay of Peraiola, the meeting point between the Agriates and the Ostriconi valley, which leads to the sea.
Anse de Peraiola - Marina Di Malfacu (5.9 miles): Malfacu is a long, narrow cove that provides the best shelter on this stretch of coast bordering the Agriate Desert. The anchorages here are shallow and you’ll be well sheltered except for a northerly wind. The waters here are renowned for their exceptional clarity and the beauty of the underwater seabed.
Marina Di Malfacu - Loto Beach (6.7 miles): Located in the Agriate Desert, Loto beach is not far from Saleccia beach. Only accessible by sea, Loto is a must during your sailboat charter in Calvi.
Loto Beach - Saint Florent (3.8 miles): Saint-Florent is a beautiful little port at the end of a magnificent bay framed by the mountains of Cap Corse and Nebbio. You will be seduced by this charming city on the water's edge: many stars establish their summer residence here! The surroundings of Saint-Florent are equal to the magnificent setting: you will be able to explore by boat the many creeks of the wild coast of the Agriates desert. A change of scenery guaranteed.
Saint Florent - Marine d’Albo (8.5 miles): Situated north of Nonza, the Marine d’Albo beach offers a beautiful stretch of pebbles right next to local seaside shops. Long and wide (about 300 metres long and up to 200 metres wide in places), this beach is a renowned water sports hotspot. In calm seas, swimming is possible and its size allows everyone to find a place set their towels down!
Marine d’Albo - Golfu Alisu (8.4 miles): Located 4km north of Pino, Alisu beach is one of the few beaches in Northern Corsica where you can find sand. The main beach in this gulf of Alisu is easily accessible by road via a small path (the car park is a few metres from the beach). On both sides, there are two small creeks (more difficult to access, access with a kayak is recommended).
Golfu Alisu - Centuri Port (4.1 miles): Centuri is a small village with a charming port. During the summer however, it becomes a little "bling bling" haven for the elite… this is perhaps because of the delicious lobsters which are the speciality of Centuri!
Port of Centuri - Marine de Tollare (4.6 miles): Marine de Tollare is just a stone’s throw from Ersa, a very touristy town and the northernmost part of the ‘Cap Corse’ or the Cape of Corsica. Situated not far from Bastia, the small village abounds in natural wonders that attract many tourists.
Tollare Marine - Macinaggio (5.7 miles): Macinaggio is one of the most coveted marinas in Northern Corsica: it can accommodate up to 200 boats, from the most innocuous to the most sophisticated. It was in this port that Napoleon landed when he returned from exile on the island of Elba.
Macinaggio - Marine de Porticciolo (5.8 miles): Porticciolo is an ideal village to spend a few hours of peace and relaxation by the sea. The small village is an oasis of tranquillity, simplicity and harmony.
Marine of Porticciolo - Erbalunga (6.3 miles): Erbalunga is very peaceful, so you will have plenty of time to stroll through the cobbled streets, covered passages and squares pleasantly shaded by plane trees and palm trees.
Erbalunga - Bastia (5 miles): Bastia is in a spectacular location, on the side of a 900-metre-high mountain. The Mediterranean city is certainly more authentic than Ajaccio. You won’t get bored of walking through its streets lined with cheerful houses and enjoy the Corsican atmosphere! The perfect finale for your sailboat charter in Calvi.
