Situated on the Istrian Peninsula, Pula is the main city of Istria. Pula offers a combination of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage including wine-making and traditional Balkan cuisine. Pula is a great starting base for any boater as it offers a well- run marina, plenty of restaurants and interesting sightseeing opportunities before you decide to head for the nearby Brioni Islands and drop your anchor there. Moor your boat to a dock on one of the numerous islands such as Unije, Losinj, Silba or Susak and enjoy the charming Mediterranean villages and beautiful natural landscapes of Croatia.

We had an excellent 2 weeks sailing trip across Northern half of Croatian Adriatic.
1. The very fast Pogo meant we doubled our daily distance (or halved the sailing time) and rarely motored (this boat is faster by sail above 5 knots of wind even dead against the wind) compared to the usual renter.
2. Boat is 2020 and well maintained and complete. No issues whatsoever.
3. The local charter company is friendly and good service.

Our Fontaine Pajot Lucia 40 was in good condition and very clean. The check-in process went relatively smoothly and we had a good week despite the variable winds. You certainly need 2 weeks around here to get any distance without long sails every day. I was suprised how well our cat sailed and despite basic cruising sails we did hit 10kns on occasions. The boat was very comfortable and spacious and everything worked. The only negative was the dinghy. The outboard was far too big (20hp) for the size of the dinghy and the davits needed modifying to simplfy the process of getting it up and down into the water.

Good and well prepared charted with a few glitches

Marina Veruda is a mid-sized marina, the parking spot is right at the entrance. From this year they have a rule, that on Saturday after 11am, the entrance to the peers is closed and you have to use little karts to transfer all your stuff. This is really not a nice experience as the marina is super long and certain peers are very far. Also, there are plenty of parking inside the marina.
The charter boat was well prepared, everything worked as expected. The crew of the charter company is nice and helpful, they were responsive to solve all our issues.
The only glitch of the charter was the refuelling at the end. Friday evening the solo fuel station in the marina is very crowded you can expect 8-10 boats lining up, waiting for an hour manoeuvring. Because of this we usually refuel Saturday morning, just before leaving.
Be aware that the charter company is checking-out the boats on Friday evening and they do not allow you to leave your spot on Saturday morning "because the diver already checked the boat", however they charge quite a bit for refuelling themselves, 30% of the fuel cost in our case. We managed to solve the issue by using canisters to fill the boat up, but if was a conflict point, which we would prefer to avoid.

The marina in the heart of Pula is a great starting point if you want to enjoy this great city at the beginning and the end of your charter. Small but clean and friendly.
The Aventura is an older boat but well maintained and clean. We felt that we needed more ropes and a deck brush. these were quickly provided by the friendly staff in the nearby office. Just ask. The staff also provided helpful new information about the sailing area, even for me who sailed these waters five times previously.
My only real criticism of the boat is her performance to windward. The reason in my opinion is partially the in mast furling mainsail design (can‘t be helped) and the age of the sails (could be helped)
Overall; Great starting point, nice marina, comfortable boat.
