Sicily is home to a multitude of glorious landscapes, so for any nature-lovers, it’s a marvelous destination for a catamaran charter. The volcano on Stromboli island is one of the world’s most active, as it regularly explosions occur inside the summit’s crater. You can trek up to the top with a guide to reach the summit which lies at 924m high, which in total takes between 5 and 6 hours, (so it’s not for the faint-hearted), but fully worth the trip if you can! For what will be some of the best views during your charter holiday, head to the Castello di Venere, located atop a hill in the town of Erice where you can get awe-inspiring panoramic views for miles.
The abundance of Greek remains which freckle the southern region of Sicily, make for marvelous adventures during a catamaran charter. Why not explore the Ancient Greek theatre of Taormina, or the temple and ancient theatre of Segesta, or the 4th and 5th century A.D. Roman mosaics at Piazza Armerina - the world’s largest collection of its type! Many ancient treasures are exhibited in the Regional Archeological Museum in Palermo, so if you don’t have time to visit all the temples during your charter, simply spend a few hours browsing the museum to get a taste of the island’s captivating history.
Italy has some of the most celebrated cuisine in the Mediterranean, and in the world even, and Sicily offers a unique local twist on many of the national classics. If your catamaran charter is based in Palermo, head 70km south, to the seaside town of Menfi, where the restaurant ‘Da Vittorio’ serves up traditional Sicilian dishes based around fresh, locally-caught seafood! Or for a classic Sicilian-version of a gelato, head to ‘Gelateria Briosca’ to try the famous ‘brioche con gelato’, which comprises of an ice cream-stuffed brioche bun… it’s every bit as mouth-watering as it sounds!
Sicily enjoys a sublime climate, ideal for sailing in the summer months. Book your catamaran charter for between April and October to enjoy long days of glorious Mediterranean sun, with temperatures in their 30s accompanied by moderate winds. With 15 different bases scattered all over the coastline, and a collection of first-rate, well equipped marinas from which to charter your catamaran, your sailing experience here will be a dream!
