A city located on the north-east coast of Sardinia, Olbia is a beautiful city with a charming historic centre. The Costa Smeralda offers endless opportunities for beach, sunbathing, walking, golfing and much more during your catamaran charter! Whatsmore, the stunning La Maddalena archipelago is located about 50km from the city, just off the north coast of the mainland, and makes for a stunning navigation destination. Moor your catamaran and head onshore to visit the San Simplicio basilica, the Museo archeologico de Olbia or simply soak up the city’s atmosphere people watching with a latte in hand in one of the many enchanting cafes in the central Piazza Matteotti. Nearby beaches include Spiaggia Pittulongu (a popular spot for windsurfing) and Spiaggia di Porto Istana (home to clear, turquoise waters and soft sands).
The capital of the island of Sardinia, Cagliari is a city rooted in its ancient past. Founded in the Neotholic age, the city still has many remains, making it a great destination for history enthusiasts. As well as the intriguing heritage, Cagliari has many other attractions worth visiting during your catamaran charter; such as the Cattedrale di Santa Maria, which was built in the 13th century originally with a gothic design, but now bears more baroque influences. Once you moor your catamaran, simply walk around this charming city; down the palm-lined boulevards, enjoy local delicacies in the many pallazi… For great views, head up to Bastione de Saint Remy; a neoclassical building which houses a gallery, with a panoramic terrace providing gorgeous views of the city’s rooftops down below, and the mountains in the distance.
Sardinia is Europe’s gem when it comes to beaches. Rivalling those of the Caribbean, a catamaran charter here will provide you with the most exquisite waters and glorious sands that Italy has to offer. Head to Chia beach, a favourite with families, where golden sand and shallow blue waters create an idyllic setting, topped off with wandering flamingos in the lagoon behind the beach! If you desire those postcard-worthy, floury-white sands and aquamarine waters; look no further than Spiaggia della Pelosa. Here you can also windsurf, or take a hike into the national park and spot the famous Albino donkeys grazing in the bushes.
The weather in Sardinia is glorious in the summer months! From May to October winds are pretty reliable and don’t exceed 25 knots (but keep an eye out for forecasts of the stronger Mistral winds). Under the heat of the Mediterranean sun you will enjoy temperatures in their late 20s-30s during your catamaran charter, and many hours of sunlight each day as you cruise through the sapphire waters around the island, with a glass of delectable Italian wine in hand!
