Charter a catamaran in Praslin and on your way to Mahé, you will see, as once Lazare Picault did in 1744, a long, hilly landmass rising out of the sea that seems to approach green shining from the horizon. Once you have passed the south coast, you reach a wide, natural bay, the one where Picault anchored to explore this Praslin island after Mahé. He immediately gave it the name "Ile des Palmes" without knowing that he had just discovered the home of the Coco de Mer palm, one of the rarest and most extraordinary plants in the world.

From Praslin, there are about 20 dive sites, some of which will be presented in the following. At the diving bases, there is, as usual, the price differentiation between long and short-range dives. Basically, you will be picked up by car from your hotel on Praslin and is, therefore, independent of the sometimes, time-consuming bus traffic. Diving from Praslin is somewhat different from diving from Mahé. The current is often stronger, the fish are often bigger and the dives more adventurous. A signal buoy for safety should be a must for every dive.
