Learn about the mysterious history of the Mayans, dive into the ocean and swim with dolphins, or enjoy the vibrant nightlife. Indulge yourself in the local specialties of Cancun and delight in the delicious and unexpected flavours!
The weather in Cancun is the most mild and ideal from December to April, when the sun is shining, it is not too hot, and the rainfall is low. The temperature during these months ranges from lows of 22°C to highs around 31°C. There are also strong, yet steady winds throughout these months as well, ideal for relaxing on your catamaran rental!
The Cancun International Airport is your best bet in terms of arriving to your departure base quickly and easily. It is well-connected to the city centre with buses, shuttles, and taxis. There is a bus every 30 minutes connecting you directly to the city centre, as well as an even more frequent bus, taking you to the “Hotel Zone,” for around 4€ only.
Visit the famous and everlasting Mayan ruins of Tulum, about 80 kilometres south of Cancun, and learn about the local culture. The still-standing Chichen Itza, which was once an entire city built by the Mayan people, is an archaeological site a bit further than the ruins in Tulum, around 190 kilometres west, but it is well-worth a visit. About 3 hours by bus or just over 2 hours by car, it is the perfect place to take a day trip during your catamaran charter holiday. Admire the infrastructure of the temple, uncover the Wall of Skulls, or take a look at some of the many stone carvings to be found around the ruins. This is a must-see for many when renting a catamaran in Cancun, as it is fairly close, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and is practically overflowing with cultural and historical significance.
Smoky, aromatic, deeply delicious foods await your taste buds in Cancun! Local ingredients with flavours inspired by traditional Mexican cuisine, but also with flavours unique to the Yucatan Peninsula, indulge all your senses and delight in a whole new food experience. Test out the sopa de lima, a refreshing soup made with lime, chicken, avocado, tortillas, vegetables, and a mix of heavenly spices. This dish is a local favourite enjoyed by residents and tourists alike. If you prefer something heartier, why not try the tamales made differently here than in the rest of Mexico – instead of wrapping the tamales in corn husks, which is the standard throughout Mexico, they fold banana leaves around the dough during the cooking process. Various ingredients are used to fill the tamales, such as meats, cheeses, vegetables, eggs, and of course, plenty of spices to add to the flavour. In the mood for a snack after a long day of swimming or visiting the local hotspots? Sample some panuchos, or a Yucatan specialty made from a friend corn tortilla filled with refried black beans and topped with cabbage. Sometimes panuchos include a whole slew of other toppings, such as shredded meats, avocado, tomato, or pickled vegetables in addition to the base to make it extra satisfying! After eating all the savoury food your heart desires, let your palette experience a new sensation and enjoy a sweet treat local to the region—marquesitas or churros are the perfect options.
