What is truly great about Barcelona is you can choose to charter your catamaran throughout most of the year, and still benefit from the glorious sunshine of the Spanish coastline. Of course, summertime sees crowded marinas and is when most tourists descend on the city, so the shoulder months may be more appealing in terms of numbers. Before summer is a pleasant sailing experience thanks to the Ostro light wind, which is a gentle gust, while autumn months are also good thanks to the warmer sea temperatures – perfect for swimming or a quick snorkel! Barcelona is a wonderful sailing destination, and these great conditions are just some of the pull factors.
Possibly the best views of the city of Barcelona can be gained by climbing to the top of Tibidabo. At the summit there is an abundance of activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Kids (and maybe some parents) will enjoy the amusement park which features some incredible rides and a gloriously colourful ferris wheel. Lovers of history and architecture will marvel at Sagrat Cor Church, which offers some of the most breathtaking design in all of Catalonia. Although a bit of a climb from your catamaran charter, it is worth the effort, as it is also one of the first things you will notice when you arrive in Barcelona. A remarkable attraction awaits in Tibidabo!
Did you really go to Barcelona if you didn’t spend at least one day sunbathing on one of the luxurious beaches? Of course, the most popular beach for tourists is Barceloneta Beach, but this can get pretty crowded – especially in July and August when catamaran charters are most frequent. Ocata Beach offers more seclusion and is just a short sail away, while Sant Sebastia is home to some of the more exhilarating water sports in Barcelona. Whether you are looking to relax with a cocktail on the shore, or go for a dip in the cool sea, there are a range of beach options for you to choose from in Barcelona.
Barcelona’s most celebrated architect; his quirky style is evident throughout the city. It is a necessity to visit the iconic Sagrada Familia basilica, which towers imposingly over the streets of the Catalonian capital. However, there are a range of other locations which display his unique designs. Casa Batlló is simply breathtaking, with the floral designs ascending the cream walls to create a fairytale home. Park Güell houses some sculptures made by Gaudi, and the park is the perfect day trip whilst your catamaran is docked in the marina. The distinct designs make Barcelona a truly unique city in Europe.
Of course, just because Barcelona is a tremendously vibrant and lively city does not mean you can’t sail your chartered catamaran to nearby towns and coastliens. Castelldefels is a tranquil haven to which you can escape the bustle of city life and be at one with nature. There are some extensive hiking opportunities here, and great historical buildings. Tarragona is a nearby city that displays some of Catalonia’s most intriguing Roman ruins, while Sitges is a great place to see a trendy beachfront not unlike Saint Tropez. These are all great destinations, perfect for a day trip of sailing from Barcelona.
There will never be an issue flying to Barcelona from any European destination, and many North American airlines also offer routes to the city also. If you want to arrive to your catamaran charter destination via train, there are extensive high-speed links of which you can avail also. There has never been a more connected city in terms of public transport than Barcelona, so make use of it before making sailing your number one way of travelling!
