Yacht charter in Split

Three Reasons to Charter a Yacht in Split

1. Optimum Sailing Conditions

Between April and October, sailing conditions are perfect in Split and the nearby islands, with hot, dry summers and mild winds to sail (10-20 knots) across the Adriatic Sea. Combined with warm waters and blue skies, the climate of Croatia could not be more ideal for a yacht charter. You or your optional skipper should be aware of the Bora (dry, cold, north-easterly), Jugo (humid, southerly) and Mistral (landward blowing) winds, which shouldn’t be an issue during your day or week of sailing, but these details are still important to remember. If the skipper decides not to sail, it is the perfect opportunity to explore the national parks of Croatia! Whether you want a skippered yacht charter, motor yacht, catamaran, or bareboat charter, you can tailor your sailing holiday week in Split to exactly what you desire. The ACI marinas and berths throughout Split, and nearby destinations and islands like Trogir offer exceptional services at a great price for anything you or your boat may need throughout your week in Croatia. You can sleep happily in your cabins in these fantastic setups.

2. Adventurer’s Dream

Maybe you love relaxing in the cabins of your yacht in ACI Marina Split (thanks to the fresh and clean bed linen), but also love being active and exploring… Split is the place for you! You can enjoy the perfect tranquility of your sail, leave your catamaran in its berth, and then head on land and explore Marjan National Park by bike or on foot. During the week, why not head inland to Krka National Park – one of the most stunning landscapes of Croatia? Your skipper will know the details on how to get there, and after a day exploring the bright green canopies and waterways, you will be glad to see your comfy cabins in your chartered boat in the marina. A yacht charter in Split means you won’t just be discovering the Adriatic onboard your boat. You can rent sea kayaks, or snorkelling gear at a good price for exploring the world beneath the waves. If you’re an adrenaline-seeker, head to Brač island, where you can also windsurf and mountain climb. Looking for a new town and change of scenery? Torgir is a perfect change of pace from Split.

3. Glorious Beaches

One of the best things about sailing in Split is it gives you access to some of Croatia’s most beautiful beaches. Take Brač island for example, if you rent a boat from here, you will be a stone’s throw away from Croatia’s most famous, most photographed beach, Zlatni Rat. You can spend the day here on your yacht charter taking in the exquisite view of the islands and town. Dock in the berths here and spend the night in your cabins listening to the sound of the waves. On mainland Split, Bačvice beach is popular during the day with families. If you sail 4km west of the main town, you will come across the more secluded Kašjuni beach, with translucent emerald waters, views of towering cliff-faces, and a tree-lined shingle beach. A bareboat charter or catamaran rental will enable you to see the most heavenly corners of Split, and the other islands of Croatia.

How to spend a day (or week!) in Split

Split is Croatia’s second largest city, and is a stylish, vibrant hub of culture on the Dalmatian coastline. Its diversity and beauty attract lovers of sailing and tourists from all over the world, so whether you visit before, during or after your week yacht charter, make sure you dedicate at least a day to discover the hidden gems of this inspiring town.

Wake up early and leave the cabins on your chartered yacht to watch the sunrise over Split and grab a coffee from a cafe in Diocletian’s Palace - what a way to start the day! A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the palace covers over 38,000 sq meters, and is the living heart of the old town. The monument is one of the world’s most impressive Roman town remains which is still inhabited and used on a day-to-day basis. Spend the morning getting lost in the details of the arches and alleys of the palace and grab some lunch from one of the many restaurants serving up exquisite dishes from Croatia, before hopping on Bus 12 from the Riva out to Marjan National Park for a breath of fresh air in what’s known as the ‘lungs’ of the city of Split.

Wander through pine forests and discover medieval chapels, hike, or cycle up to lookout points for stunning ocean, island, and city views, and then head down to the secluded Kašjuni beach. This green oasis is the perfect sailing destination away from the city bustle, and can be accessed by boat, so if you don’t get a chance to visit when in the city, you can always sail and berth here during your yacht charter!

When you start to get tired towards the end of the day, take the bus back to the second largest city of Croatia and take a break in a charming café in the old town, then get a refreshing gelato. Go for a stroll along the waterfront Riva and find a spot to sit and eat dinner and drink wine in front of the glorious colours of a Split sunset, until night descends, and you can return to the marina. There is more than enough choice of bustling bars to visit during the week and enjoy a Croatian cocktail before returning to your cabins.

Cuisine of Croatia

Split is the perfect town for seafood! A yacht charter from here will expose you to some of the freshest fish in Croatia; find it at Konoba Matejuška, a cosy, rustic tavern located on a charming side street by the waterfront not far from the marina. Or head to Konoba Marjan, which sells regional specialties such as cuttlefish ‘brujet’ (fish stew), and a variety of locally produced wines. If you want to try other Croatian delicacies, head to Zinfandel restaurant, and try ‘Pašticada’, which comprises of veal or beef stewed in prunes and red wine, a dish typical of Dalmatian cuisine. No better opportunity to sample traditional Croatian food than with a yacht charter in Split! If you have a skippered yacht charter, do not be afraid to ask them for details of the best restaurants in Split or Croatia to visit after a day of sailing.

Getting There

Split Airport is the second busiest airport in Croatia, located 24km from the city, in the town of Kaštela. If you wish, transfers from the airport to your yacht charter base can be organized (at an extra price). Be aware that US citizens may need to clear tourist tax.
